The Wiz is the soulful African American version of the classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz fairy tale with a modern twist that retells the tale. The Wiz originated on Broadway in 1975, became a hit movie in 1978 and has enjoyed several reincarnations including a holiday 2015 television LIVE rendition. The music by Charlie Smalls is a lively mixture of rock, gospel and soul.
