Each year, thousands of people converge on the Smoke on the Water Chili Cook-Off to sample red chili, green chili and salsa from amateur chefs who compete in this regional cook-off, sanctioned by the International Chili Society (ICS). First place in each category in the cook-off receives an automatic berth to the World Championships held each year in October. The day includes live music on two stages from 11 AM until 3 PM (performers below), chili and salsa sampling, local food vendors, kids area and the always popular Hot Pepper Eating Contest. Smoke on the Water is a widely popular cook-off because of its emphasis on the cooks, providing prizes in excess of $10,000 and amenities that have cooks traveling from as far away as 9 states including WV, KY, OH, VA, IN, GA, NC, MI and MO, to share their culinary expertise and desire to have a great time in Charleston! This event is sponsored by Bud Light.
